Nadah El Shazly ندى الشاذلي, Kim Love, visuals by Dima Matar
Strangewaves presents a very good good friday, with the ethereal beauty of one of the world’s leading innovators of songscapes,
Nadah El Shazly ندى الشاذلي
Devin Brahja Waldman Sax
Thierry Amar Upright Bass
A prominent figure in the explosive Egyptian underground, Nadah El Shazly has been receiving universal acclaim from the likes of The Wire: Adventures In Modern Music, The Quietus and others, for her otherworldly debut album Ahwar = أعوار. Combining avant garde jazz with Arabic pop & folk, Nadah’s music is supremely singular and utterly arresting.
“An artist capable of blending improvisational methods pulled from classical Arabic music and contemporary free-jazz abstraction” — The Wire
with very special guests:
Kim Love is a conceptual sound-based performance art project brought to you by Sahra Soudi, Katie McDonald, Aimee Burnett, Ariel Bader-Shamai, Allie Blumas and Lauren Goodman. The project originated in the fall of 2018 as part of the event Lazy Susan presented by Aimee Burnett. Kim Love has since evolved and taken part in other happenings around Hamilton. We look to explore the relationship between audience and performer by eliminating the traditional barriers that exist between these two, often seperate entities. Operating within the parameters of Radical Softness, Kim Love is a beautifully tender depiction of what can transpire when womxn support womxn.
